Puppet by Eva Wiseman
When Esther goes missing in 1882 Hungary, the people of the village immediately conclude that the Jews killed her for a Jewish ritual. There are few Christians that believe that the Jews didn't do it. When the law enforcement cannot find enough evidence they force Morris Sharf to lie about the incident and accuse his father and three of people of the heinous crime. The only person that can help is Julie. Will she be able to prove that the Jews did not kill her friend Esther or will the Jews be wrongly accused.
Puppet is good yet depressing novel about the persecution Jews felt in the late 1800's It has some good information about the persecution of Jews but is not entirely historical fiction. The story is well put together even though it is depressing. Julie is a great heroine in the fact that you would not expect her to a heroine. Overall, this is a good book even if it is rather depressing.
