North of Beautiful by Justina Chen Headley

North of BeautifulTerra has a large red birth mark on her cheek. She is constantly trying to find new treatments to make it go away or finding new ways to cover it up. However, she has other issues too. Her father is verbally and emotionally abusive to her entire family. Terra is constantly trying to protect her mother, but is trying to get away from her father by graduating early and going to college just like her brothers. Something changes all this. She runs into a car while her mother is in the car. The family she runs into ends up being Jacob and Norah. Norah is about her mom's age while Jacob is Terra's. This begins a journey for both Terra and her mom that will change their lives.
When I first began reading this book, I wasn't a huge fan, but slowly it grew on me. I ended up loving this book. There was such and emotionally journey for all the characters. The characters each found their power in their own way. They learned to love themselves for who they were. I highly recommend this book.
